Introduction to the Korean Society of Myocardial Infarction
Leading the Way in National Health and Acute Myocardial Infarction Treatment

The Starting Point of the Research Society
The Korean society of myocardial infarction (KSMI) traces its origins back to September 2005. At that time, the Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry (KAMIR) was selected through a grant competition commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Korean Society of Cardiology, marking the beginning of the KSMI research society's activities. Initially planned for two years, the KAMIR study yielded significant research outcomes in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction, leading to the current KAMIR-7 achievements. This research has been pivotal in establishing South Korea as a global leader in acute myocardial infarction research and treatment.

Early Development of the KAMIR Study and the KSMI
The KAMIR study reached a milestone in October 2007 by enrolling over 10,000 cases, setting a new benchmark in acute myocardial infarction registry studies. Subsequently, in February 2008, the KSMI Research Society held its first symposium at the Kimdaejung Convention Center, coinciding with the launch of the KAMIR-III study. This was the first academic conference before the official inauguration of the Research Society under the Korean Society of Cardiology. These early activities played a crucial role in establishing the academic foundation of the Acute Myocardial Infarction Research Society.

Official Inauguration as a Formal Research Society
On July 8, 2013, the Acute Myocardial Infarction Research Society was officially inaugurated as a formal research society of the Korean Society of Cardiology. This, along with the KAMIR study, became a significant turning point for the continuous advancement of acute myocardial infarction treatment and research. The Research Society supports active academic endeavors and has further strengthened its expertise in the field of acute myocardial infarction treatment through the establishment of clinical practice guidelines and the publication of textbooks.

Vision and Mission of the Research Society
The Research Society's Vision is "to free our nation from acute myocardial infarction through research on the disease." Its Mission is "to research prevention and treatment methods for acute myocardial infarction suitable for the Korean context," aiming to contribute to the improvement of national health.

Core Values and Objectives
The core values of the Acute Myocardial Infarction Research Society lie in establishing guidelines for the prevention and treatment of acute myocardial infarction and contributing to national health and economic development by conquering the disease. These values are central to all activities of the Research Society and are realized through academic efforts and the development of practical policies.

Conclusion
Over the past several years, the Acute Myocardial Infarction Research Society has conducted world-class research and academic activities in the treatment and prevention of acute myocardial infarction. It will continue its research for the sake of national health and contribute to further elevating South Korea's standing in the field of acute myocardial infarction treatment.
